Kozhi Choru - Chicken Pulao

Well, this is my first attempt at Chicken pulao :) My initial plan was to prepare a Chicken Biriyani, but with a little time left for Dinner ,I decided to make this. It so easy to make and yet very tasty and satisfying ! Here goes my recipe for all those one pot dish lovers.

Ingredients

  1. Chicken - Medium size pieces - 6 Nos, skin off.
  2. Ginger - Crushed - 1 table spoon
  3. Garlic - Crushed - 1table spoon
  4. Black Pepper - Crushed - 1 table spoon
  5. Turmeric - 1 tea spoon
  6. Coriander Leaves - Chopped - 3 table spoon
  7. Basmati Rice - 1 cup
  8. Lemon - 1
  9. Shallots - Finely sliced - 1 cup
  10. Salt to taste
  11. Oil
  12. Whole Spices - Cinnamon, Cloves

How to Make ?

  1. Soak rice in water for 15 minutes.
  2. Marinate Chicken with salt, lime juice from half lemon, crushed garlic, ginger and black pepper and turmeric. Keep it for 20 minutes.
  3. Heat a pan and add oil, saute onion .
  4. Once onion is soft, add chicken pieces and saute again. Then add coriander leaves.
  5. Continue to saute till chicken is half cooked. Or close the pan and get chicken half cooked.
  6. Now add rice after draining off the water.
  7. Stir rice for 3 minutes and add 1.5 cups of water and salt and close the lid to get it cooked.
  8. Once it boils, simmer the stove and continue till all water is evaporated.
  9. Switch off the stove and keep the pan closed till serving. If you are not serving immediately , then you have to remove the water vapour from the lid in between.
For garnishing, fry onion slices, raisins and cashew nut in ghee.
