Nadan Kozhi Curry - Country Style Chicken Curry

Amma makes different types of chicken curry. Spicy one with lot of crushed black pepper, one with potato cubes, then not - so spicy one with coconut milk and so on. Once at home, my job is to demand chicken curry and she will surprise me with any one of these or a new one from Vanitha or cookery shows!  Here is a not-so spicy chicken curry, which will go with Appams.



Ingredients

  1. Chicken
  2. Coconut Oil
  3. Coconut Milk
  4. Garlic
  5. Ginger
  6. Green Chilly
  7. Shallots
  8. Tomato- Finely Sliced
  9. Coriander Leaves
  10. Curry Leaves
  11. Dries Red Chilly
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Big Onion - Finely Sliced
  14. Red Chilly Powder.
  15. Turmeric Powder.
  16. Garam Masala

How to Make?
  1. Crush shallots, ginger, green chilly and garlic and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, 
  3. Add curry leaves, mustard seeds and dried red chilly. Wait till seeds platter.
  4. Now add Tomato and sliced big onion. Saute till both are cooked and becomes translucent.
  5. To this add, crushed shallots, ginger, green chilly and garlic . Saute well, till cooked.
  6. Now add red chilly, garam masala and turmeric powder and saute till the raw smell goes away.
  7. Time to move in the chicken pieces to the pan :) Mix chicken with gravy well. 
  8. Add salt and water and cook till the chicken pieces are well done. 
  9. Once chicken is done, add coconut milk and let it boil.
  10. Before serving add, coriander leaves and garnish.
