Puttu and Kadala Curry is a classic breakfast combination in Kerala . However, I have it as my dinner also. Puttu preparation is already explained in one of my previous posts. For now, let's focus on Kadala curry :)
Ingredients
Ingredients
- Kadala /Chana/ Chickpeas. - Soak this overnight.
- Grated Coconut.
- Big Onion - chopped.
- Garlic
- Curry Leaves
- Dry Red Chilly
- Urad Dal
- Mustard Seeds
- Oil
- Turmeric Powder
- Red Chilly Powder
- Coriander Powder
How to Make?
- Cook Kadala with salt, chopped onion and garlic. This should be well-cooked.
- Heat a pan and add a little bit of oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal, dried red chilly and curry leaves.
- Once urad dal and mustard seeds starts splattering, add turmeric powder, red chilly powder and coriander powder. Let it fry well and do not get it burnt!
- Now add grated coconut, fry it till the raw smell goes off.
- Now add the cooked Kadala and use the left over water used to cook it. Adjust the amount of water based on how much gravy one needs.
- Close the pan and cook it for 5- 10 minutes in low flame.
