Chakka Vevichathu - Steamed Jackfruit with Spices

Jack-fruit (Chakka) is an easily available fruit in my neighborhood  Most  parts of this wonderful produce can be utilized except the hard shell. Ripen ones makes a great snack in the evening. Raw ones can make excellent side dishes for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

  1. Raw Jackfruit flesh
  2. Turmeric Powder
  3. Bird's Eye Chilly (Kanthari Mulaku)
  4. Salt
  5. Grated Coconut
  6. Curry Leaves
  7. Cumin Seeds
  8. Garlic

How to Make?
  1. Boil water with turmeric powder and salt.Keep the water to minimum. Intention is to cook jack-fruit in this. If needed, water can be added later.
  2. Once the steam starts coming, add crushed garlic, cumin seeds, kanthari mulaku and curry leaves.
  3. When water reaches boiling point, add jack-fruit flesh and wait till jack-fruit is cooked well.
  4. Now , switch off the burner and add grated coconut and mix the ingredients well. 
  5. Drop in couple of coconut oil for that authentic taste and aroma. You can avoid this step if needed.

Enjoy this with , spicy fish curry or chicken/meat curry and rice.
